Spring in Autumn

Spring in Autumn.  What am I on about?  Well.  I got dressed this morning and the dress I put on, if I'm honest, it looked more like a dress for a Spring day than an Autumn one.  Having said that, today is particularly beautiful in this part of the country.  The exact kind of Autumn day you dream about.  Crisp air, colourful leaves in the trees, no rain and blue skies.  So I suppose, if it weren't for the leaves around my feet I could be fooled into thinking it was a little spring like out there.  If it weren't for the smell in the air as well...  Do you find the air smells different season to season?  I know I do.

I like this dress.  It hangs in my wardrobe (which is bursting at the seems..) and doesn't come out very often.  It's one of those dresses, when I put it on, I'm not sure whether I like how it looks on my or not.  Today I like it.  And it suits the bright blue sky.  So whilst it has cherry blossom splashed all over it, it feels lovely and bright, just like the weather.  I'll take that..  Stick a pair of tights under and cardi over the top, I think it still works!

Smile woman!

Do you ever wear clothes that don't seem quite right for season but go with it anyway?  Oh, and before you comment. Yes, I am wearing my slippers.  I'm in my house! No shoes in the house!! Perhaps I should change the title of this blog to "Style in Slippers".  Or "Slip into Style".  Perhaps "Style V Comfort"?.  Hmmmm....

Yummy Yumi!

I first discovered Yumi in Bath.  I was browsing in one of the little boutique shops there away from the main shopping area (although, it's all changed now, with their recent shopping development!!) and I discovered a rather beautiful and different dress.  I tried it on, loved it and bought it.  The label read "Yumi".  I'd never heard of them before... but now, their name was etched on my brain!

Next came the craze for batwing cardigans - remember that a few years back?  Probably more years back than I care to remember now.  I was on the look out for the "perfect" batwing cardi.  I was watching a program on BBC3 about disabled models, Britain's Missing Top Model.  One of the girls, Lilli, was wearing a gorgeous batwing cardi.  I thought it was fantastic.  With the help of Google, I managed to track it down. Low and behold, it was Yumi.  I hit their site and became a proud owner.  I wore that cardigan for years.  I don't own it any more, it was too big for me after I lost weight post baby, but I really was very fond of it. You can actually see Lilli wearing it in a video interview here!

For me, Yumi is the place I go when I want something on trend but a little bit different.  Something with a cool print, something that packs a punch, gets compliments and stands out.  Their items aren't mega cheap, but they are affordable and they have fantastic sales!!  I often frequent their online store, but if I'm at Clarks Shopping Village, I can always find a bargain in their outlet shop there.  I thought I'd share a few more recent Yumi purchases with you!

So, there you have it.  A love affair with Yumi, still going strong.  Do you shop with them?  If you don't, go and check them out!  There's bound to be something you'd like..

Loving statement legs!

In the first few weeks after having Felix, despite having lost my pregnancy weight, I didn't have the energy to get too excited about what I was wearing.  I was enjoying not being in maternity clothing and fitting back into old clothes, but that was about it.

Now, a few months in, I've got the shopping bug BAAAAAAD. I've not actually made it out on a proper clothes shop, but there's online shopping, my local Asda and the charity shops to keep me happy for now.  I've been buying quite a bit from H&M online because they stock current trends at such bargain prices and I'm usually pleased with the quality.  Plus, I get less guilt because I always get a few things for the children at the same time (like they need it!!).  I've also bought a few things from New Look online because they stock way more than my small local branch but I can get it delivered to them for free which is VERY handy.  All of these are great options for a busy mum!

So, what have I been buying?  Well, in particular at the moment I'm really enjoying patterned leggings and skinny jeans.  I bought a gorgeous pair of floral print jeans from New Look online last week in the sale.  A nice fit and the floral pattern is ontrend.  What I love about pattern is that it actually does the opposite of what you think it might.  Yes, they are statement, but the pattern also distracts from bulgy areas and often has a slimming affect on your silhouette!  Love it.

My number one faves at the moment are these fantastic monochrome leggings from H&M.  I total bargain at £7.99.  I could wear them every day of the week!  They are really slimming, look fantastic with oversize tops which are really in at the moment.  They work well with boots and flats.  I adore them.  My friend who is a huge Split Enz fan (heard of them?  Some of their members became Crowded House, like Neil Finn) says they remind her of the outfits they wore and I know what she means:

It's nice to finally get round to writing up a style post that isn't about the boys!! Love them as I do, life is SO BUSY now.  Ethan still isn't full time at school, but as of today he's there until 1:45pm and actually, that's already giving me enough time to write this up!  So, hurrah!!

Just because, here's a few other outfits from the last few weeks.  I'm sorry for the image quality today, but all photos are taken from my phone...
