Trendy Thursday - Vintage clothing and Golden Docs

Happy Thursday everyone!  Yes!  It's Friday Eve! Let's all have a big sigh of relief - the weekend is in sight!

I got some gorgeous bargains via eBay last week.  Ethan finally grew out of his collection of waistcoats recently so I sourced some replacements on eBay.  I'm more than happy to buy second hand.  I managed to buy three, one smart Next one that came with a shirt and two woollen style ones, one Jasper Conran and one from Tesco Clothing.  For all three I think I paid less than £10.  I love the woollen ones, they can make an outfit slightly smarter but are also good for adding an extra layer of warmth and make an outfit extra trendy!

Rocket print top - Smafolk
Checked leggings - H&M Girls
Gold Doc Martens

I'd been looking for some Docs for Ethan for an age.  I find it hard to buy something like that brand new for him - they go through shoes so quickly and Docs aren't cheap.  I've no issue buying second hand shoes as long as they haven't been heavily worn.  Finally, I got lucky and found a pair in Ethan's current size on eBay.  The starting bid was £9.99 but with free postage so I went for it.  No one else bid and they were ours!  Total bargain I think.  Ethan's feet will probably grow out of them soon but at least I can save them for Felix.  They look amazing on him, really go well with his leggings and skinny jeans.  He loves them as well, he calls them his golden dancing boots.  I'm happy to report that he's comfy in them as well.  Perhaps in the case of Docs it's better buying them slightly worn in - I know it takes a while to make them comfy!

Felix hasn't been left out.  I found a lady selling a whole load of vintage children's clothing from the 50s - 80s.  It was old shop stock, unworn.  I decided to limit myself to one item but it was very hard to pick!  I went for a 1970s Ladybird romper.  So adorable!  It's a little big for Felix just yet, but it'll be great for spring and summer!

I also bought a couple of items from the new season collection at Zara Baby - I really like their clothes for children.  I've never been a big fan of them for myself (I feel they are the same quality as H&M ladies clothing but more pricey with less choice) but really do like their children's items.  I bought a cute t shirt which I think is super trendy and some of their baby trousers - I especially like their baby trousers because they are generous around the bum which is great for big cloth nappies!

A day at home in a vintage skirt.

I've been at it again... spinning around that is!! I am really loving skirts and dresses at the moment.  This outfit really lifted my spirits.  I'm finding being at home with Ethan quite hard at the moment.  I don't know if he's "punishing" me for being away in London the other week, or if he's worried about starting preschool next week, but whatever it is, he is being VERY HARD WORK!! I can't wait for him to start at preschool so we can get into our new routine...  and I can have a break!!

Anyway, getting distracted!  This is what I wore yesterday.. It was a bit smart for a day that was spent entirely at home (Ethan refused to get out of his pjs all day) but as I said, it lifted my spirits.

The skirt was the second one I picked up in the vintage shop when I was visiting my friend in London.  This skirt feels amazing to wear, it's really soft and floats around you.  I feel like I can fly downstairs when I wear it!!  I teamed it with a very old black tee and my owl belt.  Simple!  Do you like the pattern on the skirt?  I adore it.  Would you class it as baroque?  That's really in this season... get me, so trendy! ;-D

I hope you are all having a good week?  I expect many of you have children returning to/starting school.  I hope it's going well.  Ethan's preschool do a staggered start for new children, so as I said, he won't be starting until next Monday.  Do any of your preschools do the same?  So far, I haven't met anyone else who's child attends a preschool that does that.

Feeling a little Autumnal..

Is it me, or is it getting a little Autumnal?  I don't think we've really had much summer in the UK this year.  There's been the odd week and a few days here and there, but not all that much sun.  Perhaps, like last year, we'll have a freakishly hot week in October.  I don't know... Whatever, I'm over summer now, I'm bringing out the Autumn colours again.

I'm pretty fond of "Autumn" colours. They are bold, but not neon.  Classy.  I think my favourite combinations are mustard yellow, teal and maroon. Lurrrrrvely!  This is what I wore yesterday.  My first outing for my F&F Tesco skinnies.  I think they are fab.  I've worn them all day and they haven't gone saggy like some jeans do and they feel very comfortable.  Well worth their bargain price!

T Shirt - Primark (past season)
Jeans - Tesco
Cardigan - New Look (past season)
Earrings - Home made
Bangles and ring - New Look
Necklace - Stella & Dot

What do you think?  I found this to be the perfect outfit for running around after Ethan all day whilst not feeling dowdy (accessorising always helps I feel!).

The second outfit I'm going to share with you is a bit transititional.  Verging into Autumn via summer.  The skirt is vintage, I picked it up in Hackney when I was visiting my friends at the weekend.  We found a vintage clothing shop which had a "everything for £10 sale" on.  We got pretty excited.  I came away with two skirts.  I was being restrained!!  This one dates from 1973 according to the label.  I really love it.  I've decided to wear it as a high-waisted skirt over the top of a vest.  It is such a satement piece!  I've teamed it with my bargain Nine West shoes (picked up for £2.50 in a charity shop the other week).  I wore this outfit on Monday and felt smart, bold and very happy.

Vest - H&M
Cardigan - Room31
Skirt - Vintage (from Dirty Blonde, Stoke Newington, Hackney)
Shoes - Nine West (via charity shop)
Ring - Stella & Dot
Necklace - Stella & Dot

Do you like my new dressing gown in the background?  £2.50 from Ikea, and my Mum bought it for me!!

WIWW - Weekend style

Hello lovelies!  For this weeks WIWW I'm going to share my outfits from the weekend just gone.  They aren't out there, they aren't too in your face.  Just comfy with a edge of style (I hope).  Let me know what you think!

First up, Saturday.  It was quite hot on Saturday still (though windy!) so I decided on a short skirt.  I didn't want to go down the denim skirt route though as I often do that, it's too easy.  It was still too hot for leggings underneath as well, so I picked something that although above the knee, wasn't too short.  Personally, I was happy with the outfit, it's quite laid back, but not just thrown on without thought.  I wanted to make sure there were interesting details to attract the eye, hence my belt and long blue beads.  The only trouble with this  outfit is that the skirt is a little restrictive.  There's not much give around the band at the bottom of it.  This isn't too much of an issue though, I can still walk in it, just not extremely fast or with long strides!

Please excuse my stupid face here.. not sure what I was doing. Catching flies?

Sunglasses!

Sunglasses - Cerruti via TKMaxx £24.99
Vest - H&M - part of a two part set £5.99
Skirt - Primark £4
Belt - eBay - from ages ago, cost very little
Bag - Marc Jacobs - £you don't want to know....
Shoes - My comfy Berkenstocks £19.99 from TKMaxx two years ago
Beads - My Mum's from the '70s
Bracelet - Troll beads and various charms....

My next outfit is from Sunday.  It was raining when I got dressed, so I opted for jeans.  I have to say it felt weird being back in jeans after 8 or 9 days in skirts and shorts.  Kind of restrictive!  Got used to it quickly though.  At least these jeans are comfy.  This outfit, while comfy, was pretty dull to look at so I had to funk it up with my accessories.  I went with a cute deer broach, my bright beads and coloured bangles.  I think you have to do that really.  If your clothes aren't exciting, funk it up with your accessories, and vice versa (a bit like the cleavage and legs rule I suppose!!).  Sorry for the image quality, these are from my phone which is only a lowly 5 mega pixels.

Cardigan - Room 31 £3.99
Vest - H&M
Jeans - JBrand, ASOS £175 (these have gone up to £190 now!!)
Shoes - Jessica Simpson via TKMaxx £35.99
Necklace - Gift
Broach - Bought from a suitcase sale in Bristol £3
Bangles - New Look £5.99

I like this outfit.  My JBrand jeans are a funny thing.  I love them but hate them at the same time.  I bought them as a treat when I came into a bit of dosh because I thought it'd be fun to own a pair of expensive jeans. I do like them, they are comfy and they do hold their shape very well, buuuuut... do I think they are worth £175 (or £190 as they are now).  Errr... nope.  The colour has faded quite a bit.  Are they vastly better than my £9 pairs of Primark jeans?  Not really...  Does anyone ever notice I'm strutting around in high-end jeans? Don't think so... Will I buy expensive jeans again?  I'm not sure.  Knowing me, probably.  I quite fancy trying a pair of 7forallmankind..!  Anyone recommend those?
