As always, thank you to my co-host Hannah for hosting last week.  There were a fantastic bunch of links last week.  I particularly loved Bex from The Mummy Adventure's Tootsa MacGinty post.  I'm a big fan of Tootsa myself and I love the items her boys were rocking.  Tootsa are a unisex brand so of course they get my approval!

Funky Kid Friday - More Monochrome Madness!

I still can't get enough of the monochrome trend.  Is it even a trend any more?  Who cares.  I love it.  I remember when I first started buying kids clothes I thought black was too dark a colour for a child and that white was impractical.  So when the monochrome trend first came around I was scared to try it.. but I did eventually pluck up the courage and I'm so glad I did!

Firstly, it looks great.  Stylish.  I know it shouldn't really matter at all whether kids look stylish but I do like my boys to look nice and I don't see anything wrong with that.  I've discovered that actually, black and white work really well with kids.  Black is just about the most practical colour you can put them in.  Try staining black.  It's bloody hard to do.  About the worst you might suffer is a grease stain but that won't be glaringly obvious.  Or bleach, but kids aren't going to be playing with bleach (I should hope!) so that won't be an issue.  So, black?  A total winner.  As for white, well, I've discovered that as long as you take quick action with stains they aren't too problematic.  I like to use fairy soap (which I don't think you can buy any more, the green one) or similar "house hold" green soap as a pre-treatment bar.  A good soak in some soap powder and bicarb (amazing stuff, bicarb!) and then a hang on the line in the sun.  You're good to go.  If you have plain white tees or white clothes with designs that are printed on like screen print or have a plastic-y feel then you can even soak them in bleach and water!

So, forward to now, my boys have a great deal of monochrome clothing!!  One of my favorite high street ranges is Donna Wilson's collection for John Lewis.   The prices and quality are great.  They've had a sale on lately and I had to make a few purchases - and they fitted the mono-brief!!  At the weekend my two wore matching t-shirts my aunt had bought them from BHS.  Not a shop I ever really go in, but they are cute tees!

Donna Wilson, John Lewis, H&M, BHS, Monochrome, Mini Dressing

I still can't get enough of the '2' tee I bought Felix from Nor_Folk,  I've washed it about four times now and it still looks fantastic so they've obviously printed on to really good quality shirts which is always reassuring.  It just looks so bold.  And Felix recognises numbers and knows he's two so he likes wearing it!

Nor_Folk, Norfolk, Two, Cat socks, belle and the bear

He's such a poser, Felix, I think I'm going to have to enroll him with a model agency!!  I'm semi joking there.  I'm conflicted about the idea of young kids "working" and I'm not a pushy Mum.. but at the same time, he does have quite a unique "look" with his lion's mane and he's very used to having photos taken of him!  Anyone have any experience of kids modeling?

Funky Kid Friday - Ryder L

Have you seen my new feature?  Once a week I'm going to write about brands/cool feeds/crafty folks that I've found on Instagram.  I'm calling it Instaspiration and it will be published on Saturdays (I think that's the time of week people have a bit of time for some inspiration!).  I love stumbling across new brands, especially small start up businesses, work at home Mum's, UK businesses etc.  Instagram is the perfect place for this.

A brand I love on Instagram is Ryder L.  I've been following them for a while and have wanted to make a purchase for ages.  Something I've noticed about Ryder L is that they have a very defined style and a particularly good range of accesories, especially hats!

In the end it was a hat I decided to purchase.  Ethan really likes a cap for Spring/Summer.  They come in very handy for school as well.  We can never have too many hats, it's good to have a few at home, one in the car, one for school etc.  Ryder L have the coolest range of snap back caps I've seen.  It was hard to choose which one to go for but in the end I chose the one with DUDE on the back - my boys are often described as dudes when I post pics of them on IG!

Ryder L, hats, caps

I was hoping to be able to share a photo of Ethan wearing the cap but unfortunately the post person decided to deliver my parcel to the wrong address - goodness knows where!  As a result it's ended up back at Ryder L HQ.  They are very kindly sending it straight back out to us, but how odd!!

Luckily there are loads of gorgeous pictures from the Ryder L shop for me to share.

Something else very exciting - Ryder L are holding a Brand Enthusiast search on IG at the moment.  If you have stylish kids you might want to enter.  Details are on IG but it's running for a few more days so go check it out!

Funky Kid Friday - Bobo Choses Spring/Summer 2015

Bobo Choses are hands down one of our favourate brands.  I love how child focussed they are.  Created in 2008 by Laia Aguilar and Adriana Esperalba.  Their idea was to create a children's clothing brand that could "speak to children in their own language".

I think they have stuck really well with their original ethos.  Each of their new collections have new characters and a story behind them.  I adored their last collection inspired by a day out in L.A. so I have been waiting with baited breath for the SS15 collection!

Well, this week, the Spring Summer '15 collection was launched!  This collection is called "Guess who's coming for breakfast".  It's a bright and colourful collection with a new gang of charactors for us to fall in love with.  Mr Nail, Bob the Monster, Clever the Ghost and The Omlettes.  Funny and silly monsters!!

I'd be happy to put my boys in anything from the collection but the items I'm most lusting after are these:

Bobo Choses SS15

I'm totally in love with the scarf (top left) and to be honest, I think they boys would have to share that with me - that's if I ever manage to track one down though!  They are already out of stock on the Bobo Choses site.  I plan to get a pair of the socks, they'll look awesome in the summer with shorts and cutoffs.  I can totally see Ethan rocking the harem style short length "monster trousers" (bottom middle) with a Clever Ghost vest.

Are you planning any purchases from the new collection?

Mutiny Kids - an online kids style magazine

Have you heard about Mutiny Kids?  My lovely friend Sooby, of #standingbythewall fame and her friend Lili have created an amazing online magazine focusing on kids fashion, style and interiors.  It's a must read for those of you who love anything a bit funky and different.  If you ever need any inspiration it's the place to go!

Mutiny Kids have a very cool Instagram feed which is well worth a look and issue 1 of the mag is available here.  I'm very proud to have been involved with this issue, choosing some outfits for a "one item three ways" piece.  That was an experience in image editing, I can tell you, with my limited expertise and equipment!!

Go have a read.  I'm pretty sure it's the next big thing!

Trendy Thursday - Donna Wilson for John Lewis

This time of year is EXPENSIVE. All the new AW collections coming out... it's a drain on my budget man!

It's so hard to resist though.. and everyone is getting in on the game!  Take Donna Wilson for example.  I've loved her knitted whimsy's for yonks.  When I came into a little bit of spare cash a few years ago, something I treated myself to were a few Donna Wilson cushions and other bits and bobs.  To this day I still adore them.

Last year Ms Wilson collaborated with Mamas and Papas.  She designed a gorgeous buggy for them and some accessories.  I had recently become the owner of a fantastic Cosatto number, so there was no way I could treat us to a Donna Wilson buggy, but I did buy the fab fox blanket and toy fox she had designed.  Regret those purchases I do not...

Leap forward to now and what do I discover?  Donna Wilson has collaborated with John Lewis and has a GORGEOUS collection of clothing for children.  And I do mean gorgeous.

It's hard not to buy everything.  Honestly, the colours, the prints, the contrasts.  She's covered all bases, monochrome, pattern, tribal, animals.  It's all there.  I bet you want to know what I've gone for?  Here you go:

Aren't they amazing?  I bought the Blah Blah leggings to fit Felix - he's always jabbering away!  The stem print leggings will be for Ethan.  They will look awesome with his Whistle and Flute tees.

The forest print top is for Felix.  I've ordered it in age two so hopefully he can wear it baggy and keep wearing it until it's tight.   I think it's going to look fantastic with the monochrome leggings and trousers Felix has from Shop Haute and H&M.

The leggings both retail at £10 and the top is £15.

So, are any of you planning on a purchase from the Donna Wilson collection?  Are there any other new collections you're loving?  Link up your kids fashion posts below.  Please don't forget to link back to my blog in your post and preferably, display my badge (see right).  Please also pop back to the linky and visit others who've joined in!
